About Shine
Shine has been one of Ireland’s leading mental health charities for almost 50 years.
Our vision is of a more compassionate Ireland where those affected by mental illness and stigma are supported and included in all aspects of society. We specialise in supporting, educating and advocating for individuals, family members and communities impacted by mental illness and stigma.
Shine has an engaged and proactive Board, as well as 38 staff supporting almost 100 contractors, volunteers and ambassadors.
We are currently finalising an exciting strategic review of our 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.
The Role
Our current Treasurer completes her term of office in March 2026, and we are seeking expressions of interest to join the Board and take over this key role.
General Duties of a Charity Trustee
- Comply with the Charity’s governing document
- Ensuring compliance with our charitable purpose for the public benefit
- Acting in the best interest of the charity
- Act with reasonable care and skill
- Manage the assets of the charity
Specific duties and requirements of the Treasurer
Responsibilities will include the following:
- The candidate must be a qualified Accountant, ACA or CIMA qualified, ideally with at least 5 years of senior management experience.
- To have a deep insight into all financial policies and controls and propose any recommendations for change.
- To have oversight of compliance and risk management in the organisation.
- The Director will be appointed to the Audit and Risk sub-committee of the Board. Their role will be to evaluate and monitor the adequacy of financial controls and procedures and ensure the organisation is compliant with best practice principles.
- Have an overview of the finances to advise the Board on the financial implications of proposals, cash flow problems, etc.
- Oversight of compliance and risk management in line with usual Board responsibilities.
- To be an authorised signatory of the Charity.
Requested commitment
There will be 10 board meetings and 4 sub-committee meetings each year.
Meetings are held in Maynooth Business Park at Shine's HQ or online via Zoom. We typically try to run half of our full Board meetings in-person and the rest online, with sub-committee meetings normally run online.
