Founded in 1996, the highly competitive Rosalynn Carter Fellowship for Mental Health Journalism awards yearlong, non-residential fellowships to journalists from the United States, Colombia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates to report on a mental health topic of their choice. In 2023, Shine’s Headline programme, in partnership with the Carter Center, proudly announced the rollout of this prestigious fellowship in Ireland through the Rosalynn Carter Fellowship for Mental Health Journalism in the Republic of Ireland.

Our individual support service is appointment-based support which can vary in duration and frequency depending on the person’s needs. We place utmost importance in creating a warm, welcoming and safe environment for you. Individual support is available to people with self-experience of mental health difficulties and family members/supporters.

For over 40 years, Shine is a leader and champion of recovery movement, supporting individuals to explore and realise their recovery goals.
Our individual recovery and planning support provides you with a dedicated Shine Mental Health Recovery Support Worker who supports you to plan, navigate and action your recovery journey in their life and community.
We work with people with self-experience of mental health difficulties, this has included working with people experiencing Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Unwanted Intrusive Thought, Personality Disorders, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Voice Hearing.
Shine has several recovery education programmes that are tailored specifically for people affected by mental health difficulties and family members. This individual support is available to you, regardless of whether or not your loved one is availing of our services, as we want to focus on your needs.
Our recovery and education programmes are co-produced with experts by lived experience, either as an individual or family member affected by mental health difficulties. Our programmes are also evaluated and reviewed periodically to ensure they remain relevant and adhere to best practice standards in recovery education.
Taking Control: The overall purpose of the course is to engage with individuals as part of a working group and explore practical ways to face life’s challenges, whilst maintaining and taking control of physical and mental wellbeing. This course enables individuals to confront the emotional and psychological challenges arising from changes in life’s circumstances.
Finding My Way: A recovery orientated course, co-produced by Shine and a team of people with self-experience. Designed to support individuals in enhancing their personal recovery journey, the course focuses on supporting individuals to enhance their experience of recovery.
Exploring My Way: This is a co-produced and co-facilitated course, developed by Shine staff and a group of family members, who felt it was important to support relatives in their own specific journey of recovery. The course is a reflective process enabling participants to explore the challenges associated with supporting their loved one. The course aims to support relatives to enhance their own personal journey of recovery.
Stress Management: Supporting the wellbeing and recovery of family members who are supporting a relative with mental health issues through a 6 week course. It is available to people with self-experience and relatives. It enables participants to understand the origins and triggers of stress and how to manage stress effectively.
Shine provides safe and recovery orientated community-based peer support groups for relatives and supporters. The purpose of these groups is to decrease isolation and stigma and increase individual’s feelings of connectedness, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment. Our groups are facilitated by paid Shine peer facilitators who have their own lived experience as well as extensive training and knowledge in recovery. Across the country, Shine has 8 in-person family peer support groups and runs online peer support groups too.
