Shine and An Post Join Forces at the GPO to promote Green Ribbon Campaign 2025

This morning, at Dublin’s iconic General Post Office (GPO), Shine, the national organisation which supports people affected by mental illness and their families/supporters, partnered with An Post to host a Green Ribbon coffee morning, marking the 16th year of the Green Ribbon Campaign.

The GPO, one of Ireland’s most visited landmarks, with thousands of people passing through its doors daily, provided a powerful backdrop for this awareness-raising event. Against the historic setting, the event brought together members of the public, staff, Shine staff and campaigners to share conversations around mental health stigma, solidarity, and support.

The Green Ribbon Campaign, managed by Shine, is Ireland’s leading national stigma reduction programme, running year-round with a focus on September as the campaign’s dedicated awareness month. The green ribbon is a visible symbol of solidarity, inviting everyone to engage in open conversations and work together to break down the barriers surrounding mental illness.

Mental health stigma continues to be a major barrier to treatment and recovery, leading to discrimination, exclusion, and increased risk of suicide. Through initiatives like today’s event, Shine and its partners aim to build a nationwide social movement to destigmatise mental health and foster a more compassionate Ireland.

Shine CEO Nicola Byrne said: “Stigma is one of the greatest challenges faced by people living with mental illness and their families. By bringing the Green Ribbon Campaign to the heart of Dublin at the GPO with the support of An Post, we are shining a light on the importance of solidarity and understanding. Every ribbon worn and every conversation started helps build a kinder, more supportive Ireland where no one feels alone because of their mental health.”
Heather Lowry, An Post’s Head of Talent & Organisation Development said: “An Post is proud to partner with Shine to support the Green Ribbon Campaign. The GPO is not just a landmark- it’s a place of connection, history, and community. Hosting this coffee morning here gave us a unique opportunity to welcome people to the GPO, and spark conversations on mental health.
